About Alexis Danielle Arndt

Alexis Arndt

When Alexis was born in September 2005 we brought home our beautiful, tiny daughter not knowing the path that lay before her. She was always our ‘tiny doll’. But we became concerned when she was 2 and barely growing. We took Alexis in for medical tests in January 2008 and she was diagnosed with renal hypoplasia. This means her kidneys are the size of a 6 month old baby’s and they will not grow. Doctors at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in Milwaukee recommended a life-saving kidney transplant.
Alexis is a wonderful, loving child. She has faced many challenges already in her short life. And she has many more challenges ahead of her in the future. She has spent many days at the hospital instead being home playing with her sisters. Alexis is also deaf and she has a difficult time communicating. But she doesn’t let it bring her down; she is bright and happy and you could never tell by looking at her that she is so sick. We thank God everyday for our sweet little Alexis.
With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant patients are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure. The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for transplant-needy patients. In Appleton, volunteers are raising funds for transplant patients like local girl Alexis Arndt.  An estimated $30,000 is being raised by Appleton volunteers.
